Associate Professor Paul Mitchell
Associate Professor Paul Mitchell BHB, MBChB, FRACP, MD, earned a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery from The University of Auckland in 1983.
Following completion of specialist training in Medical Oncology, he went to the United Kingdom where from 1992 to 1995 he was Senior Registrar at the Royal Marsden Hospital and Research Fellow at the Institute of Cancer Research, leading to the degree of Doctor of Medicine.
He joined Austin Health as Senior Specialist in Medical Oncology in 1995 and was Director of Cancer Services from 1997 to mid 2010.
A/Prof Mitchell is actively involved in clinical research and holds Clinical Associate positions at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and the Austin Research Institute.
Specialising in lung cancer, colorectal cancer and the development of novel therapeutics, he sits on the Board of Cancer Trials Australia and has served on the advisory boards of seven pharmaceutical companies.
Presently, he also lectures at The University of Melbourne and acts as examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He is a Member of Council for Cancer Council Victoria, Chairman of the Lung Cancer Committee and Executive Member of the Victoria Co-operative Oncology Group.
He is a member of the Ministerial Taskforce for Cancer established in 2003 and chairs the Research Working Group. The Taskforce advises the Victoria State Government on initiatives in cancer care and research.
A/Prof Mitchell is currently a Senior Specialist at Austin Health Cancer Services and Director of North Eastern Metropolitan Integrated Cancer Services (NEMICS).
