A Dedicated Wellness Centre

In this new century, innovations in cancer management require close integration of developments in laboratory-based research with the treatment provided to patients. Scientists work alongside doctors to bring ‘bench side research’ closer to the bedside.

It is within this environment of cooperation and collaboration that the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre will operate.

The Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre will offer patients specially designed facilities with a dedicated Wellness Centre. In line with Olivia's dedication to the promotion of patient-centred care and wellness programs, this Centre will focus on the needs of the whole person - body, mind and spirit.

The Wellness Centre will provide much needed space, alongside the Cancer Centre's medical and research facilities, to further develop some patient-centred aspects of care such as relaxation techniques, massage and guided meditation, as well as providing education and information for patients and their families.

It will be a tranquil and inspirational space for patients to actively balance the various aspects of their treatment, including a combination of 'quiet space' for reflection; and 'community space' for the sharing of ideas, experiences and support.

Wellness Centre Philosophy

It's the concept of wellness that will make all the difference to patients and their families when they come to the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre. A guiding principle of the Wellness Centre is that of the world's best practice in patient-centred care of caring for the whole person.

Following a diagnosis of cancer, people can better face uncertainty and maintain hope if they feel cared for. Adjusting to life as a cancer survivor needs time, space and the support of others.

The Wellness Centre will provide a special place where people can receive this support and have an opportunity to develop skills to assist with adjustment and coping.

We have researched and visited some of the leading cancer treatment and wellness centres throughout the world, taking the best of what we saw and incorporating it into our Centre.

The Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre will be among the very best Cancer and Wellness Centres in the world.

The Wellness Centre will take a holistic approach to cancer care, integrating sophisticated medical treatment and research with support programs and complementary therapies. Research shows that wellness relates to how we feel about ourselves, not how well or sick we are in comparison to others.

Unproven alternatives to mainstream medical treatment (commonly referred to as 'alternative therapies') will not be provided in our centre, however patients will be offered the opportunity to discuss these possibilities with our medical team in a supportive environment.
