A New Era in Cancer Care
The last three decades have seen huge advances in our understanding of the causes of cancer. We are now at the start of a new era, where this new knowledge has, for the first time, been used to develop new treatments targeted at the cancer process itself. Already the first of these new treatments are emerging from the laboratory for use with patients.
There are many more being developed. One thing that we can be sure of is that cancer treatment in 10 or 20 years will be very different from what we are using now.

Why an Olivia Newton-John Cancer Centre at Austin Health?
The origins of Austin Health go back to 1882 when a 'Hospital for the Incurables' was established, to treat tuberculosis and cancer patients. Today, Austin Health includes a leading medical research centre and teaching hospital. With more than 840 beds, Austin Health provides 72,000 inpatient and 134,000 outpatient services each year from three closely related campuses around Melbourne.
Over the last 10 years, big things have been happening in cancer care at the Austin. With amalgamations and redevelopment, the Austin Health has become one of the largest cancer care centres in Australia.
