How you can help

heading
There is already a wide range of wellness programs and therapies on offer at Austin Health. Within the guiding philosophy of the Cancer Centre, these will be complemented with additional, new programs and therapies as they are developed. This web site will keep you up to date with these developments.

Cancer Support Group
This group offers a friendly support service for cancer patients and their families to help find quality of life in coping with their cancer.

This is a self-help group that meets on a monthly basis at Austin Health. It provides an opportunity to express feelings, share experiences, give mutual support and further understand cancer.

Caring for You
This program involves a team of volunteers, sponsored by Berlei, who aim to support and inform women about their bra and breast prosthesis choices during and after breast cancer surgery. Their demonstrations show a variety of prosthesis and bras on women who have had breast cancer and aim to educate women on what to look and ask for when fitted with a bra or prosthesis.

Transition Program
This is a series of information/discussion sessions for women who have recently finished adjuvant breast cancer therapy. Themes addressed include living with uncertainty, sexuality and intimacy, coping with the reactions of others, and creating life after cancer.

Meditation
Meditation provides simple techniques for developing a sense of overall relaxation and calming the mind. Weekly group sessions are provided at Austin Health to patients, their families and staff, by a member of the Centre. With practice, individuals can benefit from using the techniques in the privacy of their own home.

Practitioners of meditation often describe improvement in pain, anxiety, sleeping, and general sense of wellbeing.
